Christmas is a special time for most people. Each year traditions come out of boxes and attics. One tradition our household has is this handmade wooden toy. My grandfather has had his hands into wood working I'm sure far longer than he can even remember. One year he made everyone gifts. This hand powered rail car was mine. Along the years it has lost it's string pull from the left side and a wheel was once repaired. As pushed or pulled across the floor its wheels move around and the men get to work pumping up and down. This toy has found its's way into our Christmas traditions and is pulled out and put with the gifts under the tree each year. Making an appearance once a year reminds me how thoughtful handmade gifts really are.
